Curriculum

The MD program at the California University of Science and Medicine (CUSM) offers a system‐based curriculum where the basic science disciplines are taught in the context of clinical presentations.

This allows the student to see first hand how the basic sciences are linked to the practice of medicine. The curriculum instruction is based on Clinical Presentations (CPs), where integration of the basic science material is the key.

Unlike a traditional medical school, which requires students to wait until their third year of study before they are introduced to clinical reasoning, students at CalMed are introduced to the clinical sciences in their first year, by both basic and clinician scientists.
