Position Description

Perform variety of laboratory procedures to support the research activities in CUSM research laboratories.

Essential Function

Primary Duties

  1. Support laboratory-based research activities to include but not limited to:
    • Conduct research experiments, analyze research data, and provide reporting, as needed.
    • Maintain cell lines, proper storage, and prepare for analysis in accordance to specific procedures.
    • Ensure proper functioning of lab equipment, request repairs/service as needed.
    • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, order as needed.
    • Mentors and trains staff/students, interns, or volunteers in lab related skills.
    • Sterilize lab instruments and reagents.
  2. Assist students and faculty with research projects (when possible).

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major in Biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, chemistry or related field.
  • Basic laboratory procedures
  • Molecular and protein analysis including, but not limited to, cloning, flow cytometry, chromatography, enzyme assays, PCR and Western analyses
  • Knowledgeable with statistical and scientific software as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with cell culture techniques
  • Preparation of solutions following specific instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally and effectively with colleagues, supervisor, faculty and students
  • Demonstrated skill in working independently and completing assignments according to defined goals and objectives. Must be able to adjust priorities quickly, multitask with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and use computer; stand, walk, bend, intermittently throughout the day. Ability to work in a university environment; moderate changes in temperature and noise
  • Ability to multitask and provide preparations and support for basic experiments for diverse research projects
  • Ability to demonstrate safety measures to work with biohazardous material (if necessary)
  • Must successfully complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen/physical and background check through the Department of Justice
