Position Purpose

Under the guidance of the Chief Operating Officer of California University of Science and Medicine (CUSM), the Marketing and Communications Specialist develops and drives marketing communications strategies to promote CUSM School of Medicine and MBS enrollment opportunities. This includes promoting CUSM students, faculty, research, and events through multiple channels such as social media, digital marketing, internal and external communications, and media relations. The position also entails creating and managing web content, event management, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders on a variety of projects to support CUSM’s mission.

  • Develops marketing and communications strategies, including positioning, messaging, and integrated campaigns, to meet recruitment and yield goals, raise awareness, and elevate CUSM.
  • Develops and manages the annual marketing and communications budget and plans in coordination with the COO.
  • Produces new creative, develops content, writes copy, and provides art direction for communication projects, including the website, presentations, student resource guides/booklets and materials, email messages, graphic templates, admissions notification packets, mailings, photos, and more.
  • Manages the CUSM website in partnership with IT Team and is responsible for updating content and collaborating with an established partner to create landing pages, etc. to support campaigns.
  • Develops social media strategy and maintains an active social media presence.
  • Collaborates with others to help with fundraising and grant opportunities.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in marketing and communications.
  • Skilled at project management, scheduling, problem-solving, recommending alternative approaches and solutions, and accessing resources necessary to complete projects.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Experience in budget planning and management. Ability to work as part of a team, maintain effective relationships, communicate and interact with professional tact and diplomacy.
  • Experience in using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and content management systems.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience healthcare and education.
  • MBA, MCM or related degree preferred.
