Position Description

This position will focus on career planning and interpersonal skill development. A series of presentations and workshops on study skills, interviewing skills, presentations on alternative healthcare careers pathways. Help in inviting and engaging guest speakers in delivering the course objectives. The course will be used as platform to assist students in developing their professional skills and to engage them in post graduate career planning.

Essential Function

Teaching duties will include:

    Partner with CUSM’s Academic Skills and Career Services of the Student Affairs Office to set up the following supports for students:

  1. Help with Career Development:
    • Direct and coordinate the career development course.
    • Promote career awareness including exploration and planning for the variety of the healthcare professions.
  2. Help with Transition Services
    • Facilitates community service learning opportunities through guest speakers.
    • Provides and coordinates activities for students to develop employability skills.
    • Promotes the use of technology for career planning and research.
  3. Help with Preparatory Services, including:
    • The application of MBS students to the target-school of the students intended profession.
    • Training for interviews and review personal statements and CVs.
    • Coordinates career planning activities through classroom, groups, or individual sessions.
    • Assists with student’s employment applications (if needed).

Minimum Requirements

  1. Master’s Degree in a related field including guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, and counseling psychology.
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills, high motivation, and ability to work independently.
  3. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, staff, and faculty.
  4. Ability to analyze situations, utilize effective judgment, logically reach solutions, and effectively handle and resolve challenges.
  5. Collegiality to maintain healthy work environment with peers while sharing and receiving collegial advice.
  6. Proficiency in education-related software and teaching technology as well as utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and graphics.
  7. Successful candidates must be committed to quality graduate education with a demonstrated ability for excellence in teaching. Experience working with teaching or counseling college students in career-related topics of interviewing, creating personal statements, cover letters, and resumes, career exploration and pathways.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. PhD in related field.
  2. Knowledge of Healthcare Professions.
  3. Teaching college students in career related course for 3 years.
